Alisia's actions
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 133 lbs of CO2 a month and 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

Alisia Schwark 4/15/2025 8:41 PMThe ecochallenge is going well. In the morning I tend to go on my phone while I eat breakfast, I decided to change this because I am on electronics throughout the day so I want to start limiting the screen time I have. I have a few categories where I already have good practices for example, buying second-hand clothes, using a reusable water bottle, turning off lights when they are not needed, and ensuring there isn't water leaking from faucets. A few things I will improve on are using cold water when available for washing my clothes, powering down my electronics, and only buying things I need instead of want.
