REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?
Haley Shuck 4/21/2025 8:52 PMI find myself using active listening often. I have found it helps others feel supported and heard during a conversation. I know I personally don't enjoy when I share something with others and it feels like they're not listening. I benefit from ensuring I am focusing on the conversation at hand, fully taking in what is being said. The other individual benefits by feeling reassured that I was paying attention and cared about what they had to say. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Haley Shuck 4/21/2025 8:50 PMI feel called to work on my part in controlling my waste. Not only through recycling but also through minimizing my waste production as much as possible. This may be done through limiting my use of single-use items and finding ways to reuse items such as plastic bags and containers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?
Haley Shuck 4/13/2025 4:57 PMWater aids in hydration of my body as well as for my cats. It also aids in hydration for things such as crops or plants. Other activities that involve using water are cleaning, cooking, and producing energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Haley Shuck 4/13/2025 4:55 PMEnergy is generated by a diverse range of sources in my area such as nuclear energy, natural gases, hydroelectric power, coal, and renewable energy sources such as solar energy. Energy production impacts the environment and living things by producing carbon and other pollutants as a byproduct. Energy production also causes climate change, leading to changes in overall weather patterns within a certain region. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Haley Shuck 4/13/2025 4:51 PMWhen not using appliances, I will unplug them. I can also remove batteries from devices not currently in use. In addition, I can ensure lights are off and the thermostat is set higher or lower when someone is not home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Haley Shuck 4/13/2025 4:50 PMWhen I see others printing while at school, I will suggest to them to use double-sided printing. If my friends are printing with me, I will also ask them if they have this option selected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Haley Shuck 4/13/2025 4:45 PMIf I am in need of a bag and do not have one, I often use my hands or the cart to transport the items. If I were to find myself in this situation often, I would be sure to keep several reusable bags in my car or with me when shopping.
