Curtis's actions
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 60 minute(s) each day.

Curtis Smith (104) 4/05/2024 4:20 PMMy EcoChallenge has been going well so far. There are many ways in our daily lives to save energy, water, electricity, etc. This challenge has helped shed light on some of these methods. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Use Reusable BottlesWhat are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?
Curtis Smith (104) 4/04/2024 3:45 PMDrinking a large amount of water makes me feel more energized and healthy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Curtis Smith (104) 4/04/2024 3:44 PMShutting off lights and shutting down my computer, I believe, helps a lot, but also closing the fridge door quicker can help as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Curtis Smith (104) 4/04/2024 3:32 PMFor everyday purposes, a reusable water bottle is actually more useful. I can refill it at water fountain stations around campus and save a lot of space in my backpack. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Curtis Smith (104) 4/04/2024 3:31 PMI can work out with my friends to increase quality time with friends while exercising. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Curtis Smith (104) 4/04/2024 3:30 PMI get around 8 hours now, which seems like the right amount. I would like to shift my sleep pattern to this permanently. Simply lying down earlier in the night instead of later helps to have more rest and sleep.
