Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED

I was able to continue building small sustainable habits today. I gave away a skateboard I no longer needed instead of throwing it away, brought my own drinks, and also took care of my health through exercise and meditation. I want to keep these habits even after the EcoChallenge ends, because I realized that small actions can lead to long-term positive impacts.

I have also been more careful when cooking meals and grocery shopping by trying to use what I already have and avoid wasting food. In addition, today I gave away a refrigerator that was going to be thrown away so someone else could use it. Actions like these help reduce waste and remind me that small daily choices can have a positive impact on the environment.

I brought my reusable water bottle and my own coffee again so I could avoid buying drinks in disposable cups. I also tried to be more mindful throughout the day and reduce waste as much as possible by avoiding unnecessary trash and making more sustainable choices. In addition, I chose to walk whenever the destination was nearby instead of driving. Small habits like these are helping me become more aware of how my daily actions can make a positive difference.

Today, I focused on health by making choices that support both my body and the environment. I prepared a healthier meal at home instead of buying fast food, which helped reduce waste and improve my nutrition. I also made sure to stay active by going for a walk and drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Small habits like these can improve personal health while also contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.

I started not only turning off the lights, but also unplugging appliances that had been left plugged in.

I've started doing this at work too! Our toaster in the kitchenette is constantly plugged in but rarely used!

My campus EcoChallenge is going well so far. Today, I participated in a volunteer activity focused on recycling marine debris.
During the activity, we worked with fishing nets and other debris collected from the ocean. We sorted the materials by type and sometimes by color to prepare them for recycling. These nets can be harmful to marine life, so removing and recycling them is very important.
This experience helped me understand how serious the marine debris problem is, and how recycling efforts can help protect the ocean and marine ecosystems.

I’ve been trying to cook more at home lately and use what I already have to reduce food waste. It’s not perfect, but I feel like I’m becoming more mindful little by little. Trying to stay consistent!

    • Love this! Cooking at home allows for you to be immersed in the smell/taste of the food you are eating, and you can even modify the recipe so that it's healthier!! It's very good to cook 😊
