Ecochallenge is going well!! Feeling discouraged that we are getting beat out by teams with 100s of people, though...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

Sunset this morning!!! So gorgeous, I'm so glad I watched it.

Watched the sunset but it would've been better if my team was there :(
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Hailey Swanda's avatar
    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:10 PM
We can conserve water, practice sustainability, properly dispose of waste, and advocate for water regulation laws.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Hailey Swanda's avatar
    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:08 PM
I do use plastic bags when I grocery shop. This can be easily switched for a reusable option.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:07 PM
Bottled water is what my family prefers to drink, so it's easier to reach for when I'm there. But when I'm at school, I don't buy it so it's easier to go for reusable options.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

    Hailey Swanda's avatar
    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:06 PM
I think this is a really interesting take. I think that for me, I love to watch sunsets and be reminded of the Lord's creation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Many people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?

    Hailey Swanda's avatar
    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:04 PM
I think it's so false! Finding organic alternatives is way better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Hailey Swanda's avatar
    Hailey Swanda 10/14/2024 3:03 PM
It is generated via wind farms and gas-fired power plants
