Lily Szafran 11/21/2024 3:56 PMHi guys!! don't forget to check in everyday (if you check in on the current day you get 25 points) and do some reflection questions (15 points)!! -
Lily Szafran 11/14/2024 11:55 PMI am conscious of things that i have never thought much of like how much water i am using and the amount fo exercise/walking i am doing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Lily Szafran 10/26/2024 10:08 PMI am not surprised by this as most people are not consciously thinking about the implications of food waste. I would rather save this money than basically throw it out. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Lily Szafran 10/16/2024 10:03 PMricher countries eat more diverse foods and that usually involves different meats. Meat creates a significant amount of greenhouse gases and uses a lot of water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Lily Szafran 10/16/2024 9:54 PMI feel as if we need to start small and work our way into bigger changes/adjustments. We need to make a habit to being more sustainable and then further down the line it will be easier to take on bigger projects. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Lily Szafran 9/23/2024 11:36 AMI see how the area isn't as walkable as I thought. Most of the sidewalks near me are run down or are not there meaning you would have to walk on the shoulder of a busy road. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Lily Szafran 9/21/2024 1:17 AMThe main water supply is ground water. I found that out by going to the U.S. Geological Survey’s website. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Lily Szafran 9/21/2024 1:13 AMThese number don’t surprise me because although most major cities have a decent public transportation system, it is underused for the number of people living in that area. If possible, I would make it more accessible and convenient to help the appeal. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My Home or Dorm RoomHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more unnecessary things in the future?
Lily Szafran 9/21/2024 1:10 AMWhen buying new things or looking through my closet, I should decide if this item is something that I will use often and for a long time, and if not, I shouldn’t buy it/get rid of it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Lily Szafran 9/19/2024 8:26 PMI would like to become more consistent in when I sleep, so I can create a routine and make sure I get at least 7hrs of sleep each night.
