  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Patti Jo Tennyson's avatar
Patti Jo Tennyson 4/30/2026 12:03 PM
Food sovereignty addresses the transition from local to global food systems by empowering communities to define their own agricultural policies, prioritizing local needs, and emphasizing agroecological sustainability over corporate control. It mitigates the risks of global systems by strengthening local economies and reducing dependency on distant markets.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
How can your community support inclusive decision making?

    Patti Jo Tennyson's avatar
Patti Jo Tennyson 4/30/2026 12:01 PM
Supporting inclusive decision-making requires active, accessible engagement, such as using local hubs (libraries, community centers) for meetings, offering translation services, and implementing participatory budgeting where residents directly vote on spending. Establish trust by ensuring transparent communication, providing childcare, and utilizing diverse methods like surveys, focus groups, and digital platforms to include marginalized voices
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
How can you use Ecochallenge.org programs to help mobilize your community to take action toward a sustainable future?

    Patti Jo Tennyson's avatar
Patti Jo Tennyson 4/30/2026 11:56 AM
We can use Ecochallenge.org programs to mobilize our community by creating or joining teams to tackle specific, action-oriented, and science-based sustainability challenges. We can turn small daily actions into a competitive, collective effort that builds long-term habits, tracks, and shares the community's impact
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

    Patti Jo Tennyson's avatar
Patti Jo Tennyson 4/30/2026 11:54 AM
There are multiple things that I can do to live more sustainably.... focus on reducing consumption, switching to reusables, and minimizing energy and food waste. One action I can take is avoiding single-use plastics.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy
Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    Patti Jo Tennyson's avatar
Patti Jo Tennyson 4/30/2026 11:47 AM
Personal transportation (auto) and home energy use (heating/cooling) emit the most carbon in my life. Reducing home energy consumption, and curbing unnecessary consumption of goods are a way in which I can reduce my output.
