Melissa Tomecz 4/29/2026 7:15 PMI know tomorrow is officially our last day for the challenge, but I think I will sadly have to do my last posting today :( I will be coming home too late to contribute anything tomorrow. I want to congratulate my team for all their efforts in making significant changes, by committing to their actions! It was wonderful following you through the month of April and I became inspired by your posts of what you learned. Thank you for putting our team in a top spot :) For my part (as I do every year), I will continue to choose actions that make a difference. Next year I will join again with new habits, to add to the ones I am already doing. Best! -
Melissa Tomecz 4/28/2026 7:25 PMI can't believe we are coming to the end of the month already! The year is going too fast, and yet---I just want the nice weather to start ...-

Melissa Tomecz 4/24/2026 7:11 PMHappy Arbour Day! My favourite tree is the willow tree, followed closely by the live oak. Both have a romantic air about them. Just beautiful. They make me feel so at peace. We don't have live oaks here, but I remember falling in love with them for the many years we travelled to South Carolina during the summertime :) Which tree do you prefer?-
Melissa Tomecz 4/25/2026 2:31 PMI love the smell of them too, Marshall! The other day, I could smell them, as I walked by them on campus :) Maples ARE beautiful---especially in the fall. -
Marshall Israll-Burnett (climactica 🎶) 4/24/2026 9:07 PMPersonally, I love the smell of fresh pine or fir trees, but aesthetic wise I love to watch maples grow!!

We rank #14 for average points per member---which still puts us in the top 15. Within Canada we are #1!! Within schools in Canada we are #1 too! Great job team. Keep it going for one more week :D-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?
Melissa Tomecz 4/22/2026 7:57 PMI attended a panel discussion today at JAC which had guest speakers from the queer community of the college. It was important to hear how their oppression is a result of a patriarchal, white, and cis-gendered society. The main goal of hierarchical societies is how to get farther up the ladder by pushing others down. Money hungry societies cause an imbalance to the environment, and the only ones benefiting are the rich. If there was more balance and equality between everyone under the gender umbrella, the ecosystem would function better. Historically, many cultures used to embrace gender fluidity, which enabled harmony and upheld traditions focusing on relationship to the land and being more respectful of Mother Earth. We need to go back to those ways. -
Melissa Tomecz 4/21/2026 7:13 PMA week and a half to go team!!! I loved seeing all your experiences and contributions to the feed :) I'm sure these actions can be continued after the challenge is over. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Melissa Tomecz 4/19/2026 2:55 PMI watched LA 92 ... How sad. What's even worse is that nothing has changed, and we are in 2026. Even Rodney King (who people were fighting for) said that the rioters were creating more smog from all the fires set in the city. All the damage led to unrest, waste, and air pollution. Racial injustice will create inequalities and unsustainable circumstances. But peace needs to start with the government and fair trials, because as one person in the film said: "Politicians need to follow the people, not lead them." -
Melissa Tomecz 4/18/2026 1:41 PMTook some time outside in the sun and wind to just appreciate how nature is coming along. I'm seeing our tulip leaves popping up!-

Melissa Tomecz 4/17/2026 7:56 PMI went to a New Moon Circle tonight. How fitting to meditate with others through the power of Grandmother Moon, during the eco challenge. We set our intentions for the coming Spring and year. When Oracle cards were pulled for us, mine reflected exactly what I wanted to work on. And the theme of the cards was spirit animals. It was so fitting to have nature be the theme during this month, and to find my place in it.
