mia's actions
Health
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to people or perform random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
Organic farming practices are healthier and safer for our planet, animals, and people. I will enjoy 2 meals cooked with organic ingredients per day.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk each day to clear my mind, get some fresh air, and support my physical and mental health as a student.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise or Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 containers out of the landfill each day.
Community
Talk To My Friends and Classmates
I will research the social or environmental issues in my community that matter to me and tell 2 friends and classmates each day about what I learn. I will also share what I learn on the Ecochallenge feed.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Transportation
Walk Instead of Driving
I will walk 3 miles each day instead of driving.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 4 gallons (15 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
mia vandever 9/18/2025 9:32 PMI think that is so beautifully said! We need to spend more time cultivating a deeper relationship with nature because there is so much we can learn from it. by spending just a little bit of time each day reflecting on nature's beauty and intricacy we become much connected to it and that is so important -
mia vandever 9/18/2025 9:23 PMheating and cooling naturally is very easy to do when living on campus! didn't think there would be a time I felt happy about not having AC lol
