REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Ava Viirre 10/12/2023 7:31 AMI try to drink 60oz of water every single day. The way I switched from plastic water bottles to my reusable water bottle is by spending $50 on a yeti. Since I spent this much money on a nice water bottle that will keep my water cold, I started using my yeti everyday. It is also a big water bottle so it forces me to drink a lot of water a day which is beneficial for me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Car ShareTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Ava Viirre 10/10/2023 10:46 AMMy roommates and I drive to the grocery store together, and pretty much anywhere else we need to go. Along with this, I have friends from high school that I ride home with so we are not all driving separately. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Ava Viirre 10/09/2023 10:22 AMIt honestly does not surprise me, because I also throw my food out if I am not hungry anymore. Since being in college though, I always save my leftovers to eat the following day. I could use the $1500 for anything else. For example, I could spend it on rent, groceries, a fun activity, but instead it is just wasted money. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Ava Viirre 10/01/2023 5:07 PMInstead of driving my car and keeping it here in La Crosse, I decided to leave my car at home. Before, I would drive my car everywhere all of the time, but now I walk to every place I can. Not only do I save money from not driving my car, but it is also great for the environment and my health! It can be difficult having to go to places further than preferred walking distance, but I make it work!
