  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Engage In Active Listening
What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?

I was able to learn a lot more. It allowed me to see their point of view better. Normally I would never agree with mint chocolate ice cream being better but they had a lot of good points.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 12/13/2023 6:37 PM
These numbers do surprise me! Only 2% for education! I would put more of the budget toward transportation and education.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 12/13/2023 6:33 PM
I assume most of our energy comes from fossil fuels. This release greenhouse gasses, pollutes air and water, and when extracted can destroy wildlife habitats.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?

    Lola Wilson's avatar

In a community it can lead to stress and poor health. Lack of fresh food leads to poor diet. This has many negative health impacts including high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. Nutritious food helps your body stay healthy. This way you can participate in more productive activities like exercise. It allows you to take care of yourself and be resilient.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/26/2023 7:33 AM
To get access to food sovereignty on a global scale we need to make sure people have access to healthy whole foods, to do this we need to find ways to connect them with local farmers and community gardens. Another way is to give people access to the information that will allow them to grow their own food. By teaching people how to grow their own food they can have control over their food and diet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/26/2023 7:12 AM
I think Berry is right to say that we are here to live and to celebrate. we should revel in each beautiful moment we have by watching the sun set.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/26/2023 7:07 AM
Walking around my neighborhood is beautiful. I usually walk with someone and talk with them. I don't get to do that the same way when I'm in a car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
In what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/13/2023 7:05 PM
Low income communities are where the most Landfills are located. These communities are the most affected.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/13/2023 7:05 PM
There are so many things you shouldn't recycle in a curbside bin. Like paints, batteries, electronics, motor oil, chemical, and prescription drugs. There are limited times and places to recycle these hard to recycle items. One of the main ones is the Buncombe Transfer Station.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

    Lola Wilson's avatar
    Lola Wilson 11/13/2023 9:03 AM
I spent most of my time on social media before bed so by not doing that I feel less tired.
