  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

It is very convenient because you save time and resources. same thing for emails. every email also needs electricity and takes up data space. the next thing I want to reduce waste about is plastic bags when going grocery shopping. I use my onw bags that I bring to the store

I don't hike in Germany. Actually, here on Hawaii I hiked for the first time! It is really good to clear your head and connect with nature. It is good that you can't really be on your phone during it, because you have to watch where you step (depends on the hike though). The hikes around here have such a beautiful view and really show you where on this island and planet you are. You can sometimes (if you're up high enough) see kind of the outline of the island and really understand where you actually are in the moment.

this is quiete hard for me at the moment. I try to reduce my screen time. in Germany this worked pretty well. Here, however, it is not going so well. I should do it though, because it relaxes me, reduces my anxiety and uses less electricity because I have to charge less often

    Health
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

I ate a lot of bananas, papayas, apples and mango this week. I try to eat a lot of fruits and veggies but over here it is very expensive. but it is not only healthy for myself, it also is better for my environment such as the animals that do not get hurt in the process and less resources needed.

How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

It is a lot slower. I walk a lot in Germany. Here I used to also walk a lot. But I got a moped a couple weeks ago. Since then I walked less. However, I try not to use it if it is just a quick walk, or if the bus takes the same time

so far my expirience has been good .I usually don't eat a lot of meat, it is more dairy. I also try to cut down on that. I just have to try to eat enough protein and get enough iron in my system, because I don't eat enough of that

How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Currently I live here on Hawaii. I live in a rental unit, where all costs are included. therefore, I don't know how the energy is produced. I germany my electricity is generated by 25% renewable wind energy.

Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

I don't fully agree with his statement. I don't think this would be our primary purpose. However, I think it is really healthy to connect through nature by watching a sunrise and a sunset. It also works as a natural clock.

Do people with economic privilege have a responsibility to consume and own less? How can the concept of “reduce” be presented to those who may be struggling to have enough food, clothes, shelter?

I think the problem of overconsumption is mainly a problem caused by priviledged people. it is not about the poor ones, struggling. It is about the excess consumption of humans that would not need to buy more. all the clothes, electronic devices, tools etc. we don't need but still buy, either because we think our life would improve by owning such things. we try to find happiness etc. in owning items. however, this usually doe not last for a long time. we buy and concume to fulfill us without asking us if we really need them or keeping in mind how much it takes to make these items or what happens after we throw it out again.
