Me and my family have been composting since the pandemic and it has been very useful. We have a small garden in our backyard and our plants have thrived with our homemade compost.

Today I had to print some things for an assignment, and my parents also asked me for help printing some documents. I printed them double-sided, saving five sheets of paper in the process. It is a very easy switch that more people should start doing.

Since most of Honduras' power relies on petroleum, I turn off all my electronics when I'm not using them, because I'm being mindful of my resources and not wasting them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I buy things everyday, whether that is at my local pulperia or at the supermarket. Today during my walk, I stopped by the pulperia buying a drink and some fruit, and instead of asking for a bag, I carried the fruit in my pockets and held the drink in my hand.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

Today I went for a walk to wake me up properly. I usually wake up around 4:30 AM to get ready for school, but since today was online, I figured I should use my time wisely. I went for a walk before logging onto class and it helped me focus more on my assignments and made it an overall enjoyable day.

While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Barriers include convenience and forgetting to bring a reusable bottle. I can make it a habit by keeping a bottle with me and refilling it daily.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

Knowing your food producers builds trust, supports local farms, and helps ensure fair treatment. It empowers you to push for better wages and working conditions.
