    Waste
What stands in your way of making a reusable mug part of your campus routine? How can you set yourself up for success?

Buying coffee from coffee shops limits me from using my personal mug because it is served to me in a paper cup. I realize I can set myself up for success by making coffee at home which overall is more economical for my wallet and the environment.

I think it is such a fun idea! I enjoy having my own mug with me and especially when I get to drink coffee! Before this challenge I was not aware that you could even do that.

whenever I have nothing to do, I tend to spend time organizing the items I have in my room. When I come across an object that I do not want anymore, I put it aside in a donation box to then donate to a local thrift store where it can have a second life.

Using a reusable water bottle, especially one that keeps water cool, is much more efficient then any plastic bottle. I can continuously refill my bottle without having to throw it out and I don't have to worry around losing the lid.

What did you notice about your habits or routines when limiting your showers to five minutes? What changes—if any—do you think you’ll continue long-term?

I notice that the water usually does not run cold after a long while and I tend to use less products than before. I will continue to use less time in the shower.

I love walking outside, especially during the colder months where the temperature is just right for me. I love seeing all the tall trees around my neighbourhood while I take my dogs for a walk. I enjoy taking different new trails leading to different areas I still have to explain. Being outside makes me more calm and helps me disconnect with daily life.

    Nature
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

It does ring with me because I enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is an escape way from daily busy life. Being in nature helps me regulate my emotions from when Im angry or agitated. The implications for a culture that spends most of the time outdoors implies a calming way to relax and connect with nature.

How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

I can prevent myself from acquiring more things by thinking to myself if it is a want or need. If I forget about the item later, then it was not necessary in my life.

This is my fourth year doing the Ecochallenge, and I am really appreciative that its influence stays with me throughout the year, and getting me to think of different ways to build better eco-friendly and sustainable habits!

What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

I have been wanting to spend more time enjoying my creative hobbies like painting and sewing, but its easy to get stuck on screens. I always feel better after spending even a few minutes doing something creative, and want to implement into my day instead of screens.

What podcast did you choose, and what did you learn from it?

Started off my nature podcast listening with an Ologies podcast episode "Phenology (fall/seasons"). I'm not a big podcast person, so I'm going with one that I've enjoyed once before. I learned about some of the ways that climate change can impact the food availability for migratory birds.
