REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Paige Gorczynski 12/11/2023 8:15 PMIm not sure of the main water source in my region, so i am trying to look it up. According to my research, it is called the Piedmont triad, which includes north carolinas major river basins. I will put in additional research at a later time to confirm this information. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Paige Gorczynski 12/11/2023 8:08 PMI have no barriers to using a reusable bottle over a plastic one, aside from when i drink electrolyte water. It is already an everyday habit, when i wake up i fill my bottle for school. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Paige Gorczynski 12/11/2023 8:04 PMI find myself not going back for snacks later, because i have properly chewed and processed my foods, instead of what my family calls mindless eating. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Paige Gorczynski 12/11/2023 8:01 PMPerhaps they eat more meat because it is healthier (debatable) and because its something theyve been able to afford, and have grown addicted to eating it, so there is often room in the budget to purchase more. Eating more meat can effect the planet negatively, because one it can damage the land the animals are kept on, as well as taking away produce that could feed hungry people, that instead feeds the overpopulation of animals farmed for meats. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Paige Gorczynski 11/26/2023 8:53 PMFood Sovereign virginity prioritizes local and national economies, it supports the economy based on its economic stability, environmental stability and social stability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Paige Gorczynski 11/18/2023 9:59 AMIf a community is full of rich foods, they are more likely stronger, more resilient people, they will be more able to fix and overcome future problems, having healthy people can keep relationships and communities stronger. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITESIn what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?
Paige Gorczynski 11/14/2023 1:48 PMWhile doing my research, I discovered that quite a few of the hazardous dump sites in asheville are near rivers, and flowing water. The dump sites near water affect all the communities that are located near the water. So there is a possibility of pollution running through the river and then even furthermore leaking into the land and ruining the soil. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Paige Gorczynski 11/14/2023 1:48 PMI found that if you want to recycle hard to recycle things, you have to wait for an event to come to a school, or a facility for most of those items, even though there are some stores always open accepting recyclables. Donating hard to recycle items is also always an option.
