Genevet Guzman (104) 4/21/2024 8:56 PMResidents may suffer from higher rates of respiratory illnesses due to air toxics, traffic, lead paint, and the proximity to hazardous waste. The lack of green spaces can also lead to disproportionate exposure to these environmental hazards, so families from low-income neighborhoods are well exposed. Since low-income neighborhoods are usually located in areas with little to no access to parks and green spaces. -

Seeing the damage caused by climate change motivates me to promote and advocate for renewable energy since it's crucial to preserving the planet.

Genevet Guzman (104) 4/21/2024 6:39 PMTo keep it simple, practicing simplicity needs creativity. It's like trying to be effortless, but it requires considerable effort indeed. Through this eco-challenge, I focused only on what I needed, not what I wanted. When I stick to my needs, life feels less complicated. But when I give in to my wants, things pile up and my life feels and becomes crowded. So, being creative helps me figure out what's truly important, helps me think ahead, and keeps life simpler. -

As someone who's often glued to indoor activities like homework and writing, I've felt disconnected during rare encounters with nature. This serves as a reminder of how our tech-focused lives can distance us from the world and ourselves. Carson's words couldn't be more right, as she warns us of the risk of losing our connection with the world, and ourselves as we become consumed by technology.

Genevet Guzman (104) 4/21/2024 6:14 PMI've noticed I tend to make impulsive purchases and end up feeling unsatisfied afterward. I think I need to be more mindful when buying and maybe implement a waiting period before making non-essential purchases. Setting clearer financial goals could also help me prioritize my spending better, and set my wants and needs apart. -

While it may not be the sole solution, prioritizing organic methods can contribute to healthier food systems and a more sustainable future for generations to come. One must look at the bigger picture, instead of focusing solely on short-term solutions or immediate gains, to truly understand the long-term benefits and potential of organic farming for both human well-being and environmental sustainability. -

Genevet Guzman (104) 4/21/2024 5:39 PMInstead of using disposable plastic razors, I'd consider switching to an electric razor. I'd also stop using straws and drink straight from the cup. Additionally, I'd opt for glass tupperware instead of plastic tupperware. As for my father, he currently uses disposable foam-like cups for his morning coffee, so I'm thinking about introducing him to buying a tumbler. -

How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Genevet Guzman (104) 4/21/2024 5:19 PMMy family has this awesome thing with pineapples. When we get one, my mom's the queen of using every single part of it, without letting anything go to waste. She slices up the juicy parts for us to eat fresh or freezes them and later on, uses them for smoothies. She also uses the pineapple peel to make a consumable tea that serves as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and blood cleanser. Sometimes, I collect the center and green top parts of the pineapple and give them to my neighbor for composting, which has hopefully helped him create nutrient-rich soil for gardening.
