Jack's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 30 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nature
Tend a Garden

Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 20 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard or local community garden.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Jack Hudson 4/11/2024 7:16 AMI almost never use disposable water bottles--perhaps I use 2-3 a year. For those who live as I live with well developed and safe water infrastructure all around, water bottles represent one of the most unnecessary and thoughtless forms of consumption and waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Jack Hudson 4/11/2024 7:13 AMThe health of terrestrial ecosystems depends on plants, and the health--even the survival--of many plants depends on pollinators. By taking steps to protect pollinators, we ensure their vital function can continue. We also get add-on benefits like greater biodiversity, improved habitat, and more robust food webs that create positive ripple effects throughout ecosystems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Jack Hudson 4/08/2024 8:02 PMI'm always called to address the things that are right in front of me. In my suburban environment, those are litter and invasive plants.
