Ashton's actions
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 3 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 1 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

Ashton Livingston 11/27/2023 2:24 PMI really continued to focus on my time in nature this break. Being back home allowed for that connection back to these familiar nature spaces and to be alone. It was very comforting and calming and allowed for me to deal with the stress of finals and making a movie. All of these things pilling up at the end of the term and over the break was extremely stressful so being in nature helped a lot.-
Adnan Maksoud 12/04/2023 7:56 PMI also enjoyed making time for appreciating nature recently. Going at it alone seems to be quite rewarding and unsurprisingly grounding. Definitely a generous source of quiet solace.

Ashton Livingston 11/20/2023 11:08 AMThis week I’ve put a much bigger emphasis on meal planning and figuring out what I’ll be eating this week. Most days I kind of play it by ear but after getting a Suvee machine, it allows me to meal prep pretty quickly. I’ve planned out all my dinners for this week before I head back home for Thanksgiving and it allows me to have a lot prepared. I can buy things in bulk and plan out a few meals in my week! I’ve been buying from local stores too to get some ingredients I want for my meals as well which has been really great. I’ve focused much of my meals around chicken and such, noting from the Food Inc documentary that chickens produce less methane than cows do, and I want to eat a little more environmentally conscious. -
Ashton Livingston 11/08/2023 6:31 PMThis week I did a lot of community work within the local film industry. I’ve been holding auditions for my film which has put me in contact with a lot of local people. It’s allowed for me to feel more connected to the industry and begin to put faces to names. It’s been so welcoming and I’ve loved it. Community also means that you share ideas. A lot of the people I’ve met all use reusable water bottles and try and lessen their waste output on sets as well.-
Brady Pierce 11/12/2023 8:49 PMThat's awesome Ashton, I got to imagine holding auditions is a really good way to meet like minded people outside of class and make some new friends too.

Ashton Livingston 11/06/2023 11:34 PMI visited the farmers market back in my hometown over the week and used my reusable bags. I went shopping with my mom and she showed me some of the places she hits up frequently that she saves money on. It helped a lot with my finances recently. -
Ashton Livingston 10/12/2023 10:27 AMThis week when shopping I used reusable bags at the farmers market as well as shopping at winco and Trader Joe’s. I prioritized fresh foods. Me and my boyfriend both share our reusable bags so we cut down even more so on plastic waste through this. We are able to recycle and reuse these bags often and have gotten a ton of use out of them.-
Brady Pierce 10/15/2023 5:45 PMWinco's a great place to shop and I keep forgetting about it. Its definitely cheaper and I like that you can buy grains and oats in bulk without the packaging. -
Rose Luna 10/12/2023 7:44 PMHey Ashton, I also went with my boyfriend and got to use my reusable bags! I agree that the more you think about it if everyone in your family uses reusable bags then that is already a big change! -
Emily Nies 10/12/2023 4:27 PMLove my reusable bags! At my local grocery store, they have been selling regular and insulated bags for a decade to cut down on their plastic bag waste. I think I’ve been using/collecting these since I was a child!
