REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Sam Plantz 10/09/2023 9:41 AMThere aren't very many barriers to me using tap instead of bottled. The issue I run into more than bottled water, are the bottled flavor waters. I enjoy those vitamin waters that come in the plastic bottle form. Although, to decrease my consumption of these, I can look for other alternatives for vitamins and flavor so that I can create my own version in a reusable bottle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Sam Plantz 10/09/2023 9:37 AMThis statistic can describe my own transportation habits unfortunatly. I tend to find myself get easily stuck in the convenience of taking my car instead of walking. In order to incorporate a more physical transportation approach, I can choose to make the walk to campus on days that I have time to do that. Or trying to choose carpool options when needed instead of taking more vehicles than maybe needed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Sam Plantz 10/09/2023 9:31 AMNo this doesn't surprise me because of food that I have unfortunately needed to throw away because I didn't eat it before it went bad. Being a student, working, and in an athletic club, I am a lot busier than I realize when I'm at the grocery store purchasing groceries for the upcoming couple of weeks. Recently though, I have resorted to freezing items that can be frozen so that they last longer. For example, I was buying bread only for me to have to throw away half a loaf when it got moldy. Although, when I bring my groceries home for the store, I immediately take half of the loaf out of the bag and properly store it in my freezer. There are many wants that I could spend this amount of money on, but I would have to say that I would put that money towards paying off my student loans to lessen the amount of interest that will incur on them.
