What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I would like to spend more time reflecting on my academic achievements to remind myself that while some days are harder than others I am trying to reach a goal to better my life. Being able to further my education is a blessing in itself since not everyone has the opportunity to learn more after highschool. Each day I should take with pride and be thankful for what I am learning and doing with my life.

    Simplicity Track my Purchases
What have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?

I have noticed that I spend a lot on fast food and things that are not a need in my life. When I go shopping for stuff that I do need for my day-to-day activities I feel more productive and better about spending my money. Going through what I normally make purchases on made me realize how much money I spend each week on things that are not really necessary for me to get through my day to day.

How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

When living a simple lifestyle you have to become creative to stretch the use of things like food, clothes, and other consumer items. You can find new ways to repurpose clothes and find uses of second hand items and giving them a new life. You can also find multiple uses for things that you already have and for this you need a creative mind and to be open to try new things.

    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

I practiced mindfulness while eating dinner with friends tonight and I realized that when I don't have distractions I am fully able to enjoy what I am eating and who I am spending time with. Being in the company of my friends and being fully in the moment is good to have time to give them my full attention after a long day and gives me designated time to relax and enjoy the ability to have meals.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

My response is that the sunrise and sunset is a celebration every day. For many people, the sunset is a reminder of loved ones that have past and how they are painting the sky for all of us to enjoy. I think that is something worth celebrating and just the reminder that today is a new day and that you will get through it and celebrate with the sunset at night. Helps people know that no matter what life goes on and not everything has to be so serious.

I am greatful for the natural gifts of the sunshine. As I was going on a walk and enjoying nature I thought how nice it was to have the sun keeping me warm today in the fridged weather. When the sun is shining its always a better day out and I appreciate having the comfort of the sunshine to make the day better.
