Nature

I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 45 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Transportation
Improve a Bus Stop
I will improve a bus stop in my neighborhood by posting the stop schedule, adding seating or shelter, adding art or flowers, picking up litter, or some other small improvement.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Adalyn Teutla 11/16/2023 4:24 PMThe dining hall helps me contribute to this by giving food to pigs instead of throwing it away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Brush My Teeth Without Running WaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:23 AMIn my psychology class, we were learning about how often times people are selfish and have a mindset that only their needs are important. We often ignore strangers lives and needs, and think we are higher than them. Our professor challenged us to think differently and break that pattern that humans have. I have been trying to incorporate this mindset in my life by being understanding of everyone I encounter, because we all have struggles and deserve happiness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:20 AMI went to the gym on Tuesday and did a lower body workout with a friend. While we were working out, it was fun to push ourselves and also have a fun time talking. Being able to struggle together made it a better experience. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:19 AMI have been plant based for about 4 years now, so I am used to not consuming meat. I have been trying to cut out dairy and eggs more often to adapt a vegan diet again. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Do Nature ActivitiesWhat did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:18 AMI went to the Mermaid Caves in Nanakuli, and seeing how beautiful and amazing it was really allowed me to connect with nature. Seeing the tiny crabs scramble around the rocks or even the different splashes waves made are sights I noticed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:16 AMLeaving behind little knick knacks at the store or clothes I do not need is something I have been doing to help stop my waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:16 AMI often make bad financial decisions and buy stuff I do not necessarily need, but I have been trying to be conscious of what I buy and think to myself,"Do I really need this?" -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
Adalyn Teutla 10/09/2023 1:12 AMI watched "Dominion", a documentary exposing the truth about how animals are treated in agriculture factories and the mistreatment and abuse of them. I also watched "Seaspiracy," which went into depth of how fishing hurts the environment and fish is not the best food to consume.
