I produce the most carbon from my diet, which is high in meat, including beef. I am willing to eat less meat, and especially less beef, to reduce this output

The fact that energy is so important to our modern lives means that there is a lot of work to be done to make it sustainable while keeping a similar quality of life.

    They are tasty and healthy!

The long distance and domestic flights that I take in a year (not that many, may be one or two of each) add to the carbon most. Also, having the air conditioner on for a long time is a carbon adding item!
There are a lot of changes that can be made, these are simple things like walking and biking more, eating and shopping local foods, not using single use plastics etc. I am willing to make these changes.

I’ve been using reusable bags when doing other kinds of shopping besides grocery shopping. When I run errands, I accumulate so many different paper bags that I don’t need. Today I fit everything from my errands in 1 cloth bag from Trader Joe’s.

What are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?

As someone who lives with someone else, it's kind of hard to save power. However, when I'm driving in my car, I make sure the windows are down if I ever get hot. Using the power of the sun, I'm able to save energy in my car by not turning on any heating systems. Another way I could use the power of the sun is to not use the heater. By allowing the sun to reflect through the glass window, it produces heat and I'm able to stay warm that way.

What did you notice about your habits or routines when limiting your showers to five minutes? What changes—if any—do you think you’ll continue long-term?

I feel more energized after my shower. Maybe it's the fact I feel better about my water usage but I found myself sleeping a lot better.

    Nature
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

I believe that Carson's quote is true. Spending more time in nature often reminds people of the natural beauty that people are not beginning to appreciate. For a culture that spends most of it's time indoors, they're unable to get fresh air and breathe in the real world. Indoors also means looking at a lot of things that artificial, losing that connection to the beauty of the natural world.

Turning off the lights in rooms I'm not in, unplug and turn off powerstrips when I'm finished using them, not using heaters and instead just wearing warmer clothes, and not using my phone so much.
