I had tofu for the first time in my salad today. I didn't like it, but at least I tried it!

Good for you for trying! What kind of tofu? I air fry my tofu and sometimes add some seasoning as I don't like the soft tofu!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

this doesn’t really surprise me. i think i often have food that goes bad because i bought too much, especially bread and fruit. I would much rather use that money on practical things like bills and gas, or spend it in items that will last longer than food

I've noticed myself being a lot more conscious of what leftovers I have in my refrigerator and eating those before buying more food. This has been really impactful in reducing the amount of food waste I throw away or compost because I waited too long to eat it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I feel like I have been generating a lot less trash since I have started composting. I also am more conscious of the food portions I take because I don’t want to have leftovers to throw away

It has been over a week since I started prioritizing meatless meals. While sometimes it is hard to find options, I have found that I don't crave meat anymore which is great; it makes the challenge a lot easier. My concern is mainly about where to get protein. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Whenever I travel to the med school for the research that I do, I try to take the metro and walk every-time.

I have been actively timing my showers just to be aware of the water use, and try to keep my longest showers under 10 minutes and most showers under 5.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

I'm not going to answer that reflection question, but since I hit my goal, I will talk about it. I tried to eat more salads and açaí bowls, and I started to order fish instead of chicken or red meat. I get it is an animal, ok, but I still consider it a win. Thank you everybody.
